Yorkshire Terrier Puppies for Sale

Overview: The Morkie, also known as Yorktese, is a hybrid of two purebred or full-blooded dogs, the Yorkshire Terrier and the Maltese. As such, this hybrid takes on several characteristics of both parent dogs. It is moderately active and has moderate grooming needs.

Temperament: People friendly, the Morkie can make a wonderful companion dog. It can be very devoted to its owners and loves to spend time with family. Usually quite intelligent, it can be lively and affectionate. When raised with other dogs and pets, the Morkie tends to get along well with them. It is generally suspicious of strange sounds and people and will bark to announce their alarm.

Names: The Morkie is also known as the Yorktese, the former of the two names appearing to be favored.

Groups: As a designer breed, The International Designer Canine Association recognized the Morkie in 2009.

Physical Characteristics: As with most hybrids, there are no so-called breed standards. However, the Morkie tends to grow to a height between 6 and 10 inches with a weight range of 4 to 9 lb. Similar to the parent breeds, the coat would be expected to be long and straight with a silky appearance and fine texture. It can come in a variety of colors including solid black, black and tan, tan, white or sable.

Daily Living and Care: This canine shouldn't be left alone for long periods as it will get bored and show signs of separation anxiety. Early obedience training and socialization will be beneficial. The coat requires brushing on a daily basis. Regular practice of dental hygene will help maintain good teeth longer. It may be necessary to bathe it from time to time with a very mild canine shampoo. Each day the Morkie should have exercise such as play time, a leashed walk or backyard games. This dog should not live outdoors and does much better as an inside pet. It can do well as an apartment dweller as well as a larger home.
