Overview: The French Bulldog is a playful, energetic canine that likes other animals and its owner. Because this dog doesn't like strangers very often it will bark when it notices one which makes this dog a very good watchdog. However it is not proficient as protection dog.
Temperament: This dog is playful with others and enjoys both giving and receiving affection. It also enjoys being close to and sleeping with its owner. Willing to please and sweet natured, the French Bulldog both loyal and a great companion.
History: Popular in England during the 19th century, the French Bulldog was owned by many people regardless of social class. This dog was bred by professionals to look exactly as the French people wanted them having bat-like ears and very playful attitudes. This breed came to America in the very late 19th century when there was a club formed to show off these dogs and obtain opinions about what shape of ears looked best. The French Bulldog became the most popular show dog in the early 20th century and can still be claimed as one of the most elite of show dogs.
Names: The French Bulldog can also be known as the Buoledogue Francais, a name given to them when the breed became popular in Paris.
Groups: The French Bulldog was formally recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1898 and assigned to the Non-Sporting Group.
Physical Characteristics: The French Bulldog is on average between 11 inches to 13 inches tall and it can weigh between 22 and 28 lb. This canine breed has a single coat that is somewhat fine and short. The coat comes with several colors such as white, black, tan, and a mix of these colors around the body.
Care: This breed is easy to care for as it doesn't need very much exercise and has little need for grooming except around the wrinkles which require frequent cleaning. It can withstand cold temperatures but it won’t do well in heat.
